Annual Flu Vaccination for Children: Endorsement and Importance by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)

Vaccination against influenza protects the child from serious preventable complications of influenza and reduces the need for hospital admissions. The American Academy of pediatrics recommends that children receive flu vaccine as soon as it becomes available.

Children from 6 months and older are eligible to receive the vaccine and the exceptions are rare. Children who are less than 9 years and are receiving the vaccine for the first time receive 2 shots, 4 weeks apart.
